What is Delran Junior Marksman Club?
Delran Junior Marksman Club is a Junior Shooting Club
The Delran Junior Marksman Club is an educational organization whose main purpose is to instruct youth in firearm responsibility, safety, familiarization and marksmanship. We have operated a shooting range at this site in Delran, NJ since 1962, in cooperation with the Delran Department of Recreation. Our instructors are NRA certified and are also club members. On Saturday mornings, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, throughout the year, we offer three programs for Junior Members: Air Rifle/Light Rifle, Trap, and Archery. Each program includes all equipment and materials for the junior shooter with the exception of ear and eye protection, which is the personal responsibility of the shooter or Junior Member. For information on the cost of each program, visit our membership page and download a Junior Application. Junior sign-ups are usually on Saturday mornings in April at the Delran Junior Marksman range located off Taylor’s Lane in Delran, NJ from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Juniors may sign up for one, two or all three programs. Income from Senior Memberships and from operation of the shooting range on weekends is used to offset the costs associated with the Junior Programs and helps to keep the programs affordable.
The club has the equipment to fully outfit a team of six juniors for a small-bore rifle competition match if the interest is generated.
If there are Junior Members who have an interest in high power rifle, then they will be trained on an individual basis, with one on one instruction.
Every September, the Delran Junior Marksman Club sponsors an Open House/Junior Awards Presentation from 11:00 AM until 4:30 PM. This event is open to the public. All ranges are open and operational. All firing is single shot, with one on one instruction, rigidly controlled by NRA Certified Range Safety Officers. Junior Members who participated in our programs during the year will receive awards for marksmanship at this event.
The Club Sponsored Firearms Safety Course for the General Public
These courses teach firearms responsibility, safety, familiarization, personal protection and marksmanship in rifle, shotgun, and pistol shooting. Courses normally have at least one evening of classroom instruction during the week and one Saturday morning of hands on, individual instruction. Courses are held two and sometimes three times a year, depending on community interest. We try to keep the class size to at least 5, but less than 10, for better instruction. The fee is very affordable and covers the cost of all materials. We also assist with Hunter’s Safety Education courses, which are required by state law. Many of our members instruct in these courses and also in firearms training at our range.
There is an ongoing Instructors Certification Program to train new instructors in various NRA disciplines.
