The Junior Division

The club was founded in 1962 for the express purpose of teaching firearm responsibility, safety and marksmanship to youth from age 10 to 18 years.

Sign-ups are held every Saturday in October from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the Delran Junior Marksman Range located on Taylors Lane. The Fee for juniors is $50.00 per year, which covers partial cost of materials and supplies and also a Junior membership in the National Rifle Association. All instructors are NRA certified. As previously mentioned, our primary goals are to instruct youth and adults in firearm responsibility, safety and marksmanship. Instruction and practice, for junior members are held on Saturdays from 9 AM thru Noon.

We instruct three junior member programs throughout the year. Our basic program, where all junior members start, is the National Rifle Association Air Rifle Course with classroom instruction regarding firearm responsibility; safety, familiarization, proper handling, sighting, and shooting positions are taught during the months of February, March and April. Target type air rifles and pellets are provided and utilized for our basic program. We do not use BB's as they ricochet too easily. Shooting mats are also provided for the prone position along with spotting scopes and other required equipment. Junior members are personally responsible for eye protection. Our basic Air Rifle Program is instructed indoors.

A second training program utilizing small bore .22 cal. bolt action target rifles follows our Basic Training Program. This program is taught and practiced at the Delran Junior Marksman outdoor range, off Taylor's Lane in Delran, utilizing our fifty yard rifle range, shooting at paper targets. Again, shooting mats spotting scopes and other required equipment are provided. Ear and eye protection for this second course, are the personal responsibility of the shooter or junior member.

The third phase of our program offered is a modified trap-shooting program. Junior members learn to properly handle and shoot shotguns to break airborne clay "pigeon" targets. As always, responsibility and safety are paramount.

Delran Junior Marksman Club provides all materials and equipment needed except personal items such as Ear and eye protection. Eye Protection only is required for Air Rifle practice. Ear and eye protection both are required for .22 caliber rifle and shotgun practice.
